A Guide To Spring Cleaning Your Bathroom

Spring is about renewal and rejuvenation. This makes it the perfect time to tackle some of the more laborious chores about your home such as deep cleaning your bathroom. A task that’s easy to put on the backburner!

Prepare Equipment

Before you can start decluttering, cleaning and tidying, you need to make sure you’ve got all the right tools and products with you.

You’ll want to gather everything from cleaning cloths, sprays and disinfectant to your vacuum, duster and maybe even an old toothbrush to really get into the nooks and crannies. It’s a smart idea to have a bin bag on hand too.

If you don’t have everything you need, there’s a good chance you’ll postpone deep cleaning your bathroom or you won’t be able to do a proper job.

Don’t forget your rubber gloves too!

Decluttering

The easiest way to declutter your bathroom is to clear everything off the surfaces. You can then dispose of empty, old or expired products. You may be surprised at how easy it is for them to accumulate.

Cleaning The Toilet

Typically regarded as the most dreadful part of cleaning the bathroom, it’s essential to deep clean your toilet every so often.

You’ll want to scrub the inside of the bowl before leaving bleach, toilet cleaner or another disinfectant in. As that soaks, wipe the outside of the bowl down as well as the seat and lid. It’s good to give the tank of your toilet a clean too as dust easily gathers on top of it.

Don’t forget to flush the toilet to get rid of the cleaner inside – and while you’re at it, you might as well make the handle shine!

Cleaning The Shower And Bathtub

Whether you’ve got a shower-bath combo, just a shower, just a bath or both separately, you’ll need to clean them thoroughly.

With your shower and bath, make sure to scrub the walls and the base to remove soap scum and mildew. Pay attention to grout lines and corners where mould and mildew are likely to accumulate. With your shower, make sure to give your curtain or door a clean too!

It’s worth checking your shower head; if it’s clogged, you can use distilled white vinegar to clear it out. Similarly, give your drains a check over to make sure they aren’t blocked with products and hair. Give the taps and faucet a good scrub to finish it off!

Cleaning The Sink

It might be easy to get distracted by the bigger elements of your bathroom, but your sink is just as important. If you take a good look at it, you’ll probably notice splashes of toothpaste and soap staining the sides and even the faucet. A thorough scrub and rinse will clean your sink in no time.

Make sure to check the drain too!

Don’t Forget About Your Floors And Walls

With everything else to focus on, you might forget that even your floors need a clean. However, it’s still important to give them some care and attention.

Take your bathmats and put them in the wash before sweeping or vacuuming your floor to remove any dust and dirt that’s gathered on your floors. Afterwards, give your floors a mop, just be careful with how much water you use as some materials aren’t waterproof or resistant. Bathrooms often use tiles or luxury vinyl flooring, which are quite water-resistant.

Bathrooms are known for being humid spaces. This makes them susceptible to mould and dampness. If you have a look around, you’ll likely spot some on the walls and ceiling of your bathroom. It’s best to treat mould the second you spot it as it won’t vanish by itself. Plus, it can spread and cause health problems!

You can use household products such as rubbing alcohol, vinegar and natron to treat minor mould infestations.

Spring Cleaning Your Bathroom

After you give your mirror a clean, you can start putting everything back in place; restocking toiletries and supplies as needed too.

To keep your bathroom looking its best throughout the year, you should try to maintain a regular cleaning routine. This will help prevent the buildup of dirt and grime. Incorporating periodic deep cleans will help you keep a hygienic environment too.
