Tips For A Cozy Stay In Nature In The Heart Of Autumn

When the leaves are golden, russet, and amber, and the crisp air announces the arrival of autumn, something extra soothing happens when one spends time outdoors. Whether you are a seasoned camper or just starting your journey out-of-doors looking for a more civilised introduction to camping, fall is a perfect time to have a cozy stay.

Planning that great escape to the UK, then New Forest glamping just provides that comfort of luxury mixed with the charm of being surrounded by nature. Think of yourself all wrapped up in a blanket, sipping on something warm, and hearing leaves rustle-off bliss.

Choose The Right Accommodation

First things first, find a place that will be warm and cozy. Traditional camping is heaps of fun, but autumn nights sometimes do get much, much colder than anticipated. That is where glamping really comes into its own, offering all the positives of staying near nature without having to forfeit comfort.

Or, of course, you can go for a good, insulated pod/glamping option, a well-furnished yurt, or a sweet sheep’s hut. These are usually fitted with heating, proper beds, and warm lighting too. Glamping options often feature further luxuries, such as wood-burning stoves or outside fire pits, where you can roast marshmallows without shivering under the stars.

Dress For The Weather

Probably the most crucial preparation when getting ready for a trip to be taken within the autumn period is clothes. British weather is unpredictable as it can get stormy, so being prepared for that should not allow any chill to set in. Layers are your best friends during this season. So, think of a moisture-wicking base layer or some kind of insulating mid-layer – fleece or wool perhaps- and protect it from the elements at the top with a waterproof jacket.

A warm hat, scarf and gloves also go a long way when the temperature drops in the evening. If your feet tend to get cold, it’s worth packing a spare pair of thick wool socks, as well as sturdy waterproof boots for woodland walks. A thermal blanket is also a good thing to have on hand, offering extra warmth whether sitting outside or snuggling up indoors. Soft blankets and cushions can be taken along to add extra comfort.

Indulge In Comfort Food

The best thing about glamping is often being provided with better cooking facilities than you would if you were to go regular camping. Many sites offer outdoor kitchens or BBQs, while others may have indoor, fully-equipped areas in which to prepare a meal.

Why not make the most of that and cook some seasonal soul-warming dishes? Think roasted vegetables, soups, and stews. You could prepare a classic campfire favourite like baked potatoes wrapped in foil or toast marshmallows for a sweet treat. And if there is kitchen access, a pumpkin risotto or a warm apple crumble can hit the spot after a day of exploring. Don’t forget a thermos of hot chocolate, mulled wine, or spiced cider to warm the hands and spirits.

Give In To Nature

Autumn brings with it cooler temperatures, but for lovers of nature, this season is something else. New Forest, for example, dons a colourful attire made up of red, orange, and yellow leaves, making a perfect setting for glamping. Take in the scenery with long walks or rides on bicycles over forest trails. If you are an avid photographer or like to draw, bring along a camera or take a notebook and a few pencils, as the fall landscapes surely inspire.

Just make sure to plan the visits to coincide with the daylight hours since the evenings become darker sooner in autumn. If you’re going out for a ramble, bring a pocket-sized thermos of tea or coffee so you can pause to take a warming drought while gazing over the views. And don’t go out without a waterproof layer, as rain showers will catch you out.

Stay Warm At Night

The nights can be cold on otherwise mild days in autumn; a big part of making the experience as cosy as possible will be to stay warm while you sleep. Many glamping accommodations are properly insulated, but there are additional steps you can take to ensure maximum warmth.

Begin with a sleeping bag rated for colder temperatures, or bring along a good quality duvet. Hot water bottles work a treat and can be popped in your sleeping bag or bed before turning in. Wear thermal pyjamas, too, and not feel daft in an extra jumper or even a hat if it is really nippy. Make sure that your accommodation’s wood burner or heater is in good working order, and follow any safety instructions provided.

Pack Your Favourite Autumn Activities

Glamping in autumn is the time to get slooooow, and really savour some of your favourite activities. Whether you are an avid reader, a knitter extraordinaire, or like to spend your moments in Joules, do take along supplies for those cosy, indoor moments. You may also wish to bring along a board game or pack of cards if you’re going with friends or family. These are great ways to pass the time as evening draws in.

If you love the great outdoors, pack a pair of binoculars to watch some birds or look for local stargazing opportunities. The earlier nights and clearer skies in fall are great times to get some gazing in.

Enjoy The Magic Of Autumn

There is just one way to enjoy the beauty of autumn: being thoroughly a part of it. Whether you like being snugly curled up inside a cosy glamping pod or sitting by an open fire under the stars, the season offers the perfect opportunity to know when to slow down and reconnect with nature. By following these tips, your New Forest glamping experience, like any other woodland retreat, is going to be cosier and more enjoyable than possible.

Pack your favourite jumper, bring along a favourite book, and enjoy everything this magical season has to offer.
